Re: Mare Over Weight Or Pregnant?Posted by Nanci Falley (66.90.203.166) on March 18, 2006 at 17:10:25: In Reply to: Mare Over Weight Or Pregnant? posted by Sue Ann on March 09, 2006 at 18:52:29: : I bought a mare I thought was a little over weight but now I am starting to wonder. Anybody know the best way to tell without having to pay a Vet. I am already broke from the purchase and need to save my pennies for feed. Hi Sue Ann - Has this mare started making an udder? That is, has her milk bag begun to fill? If so, keep an eye on it - check it a couple of times a week to see if it is growing and getting full and tight - that is a pretty good indication that she may be in foal. Any chance of getting any information from the seller? Such as dates she may have been bred or exposed to a stallion? She also may simply be overweight. The seller should be able to tell you if she was ever exposed to a stallion. That's where I'd start. Good luck.
