Continue what you are doing and add exercises to it such as rubbing him all over with a blanket or towel, pick up his feet, groom him all over, lead him over obstacles such as logs, tarps, etc - you could also start lightly working him in the round pen, or driving him - this is a good introduction to under the saddle work you will be doing later. He could also be carrying a lightweight saddle and learning to carry it. Check out books from your library by Monte Roberts, GaWaNi Pony Boy, Clinton Anderson - they are all top horsemen and can give you some valuable advice. They all have web sites and videos as well.
