: Hi there. Me and my fiance have a yearling who we just bought a little over a month ago. He is a beautiful palomino gelding. But after working, or trying to work with him, we are worried that he has been abused. He is soo scared and nervous of humans and won't let anyone pet him past his neck. He always keeps whoever is in with him right straight in front of him. When he gets unsure of anything he bolts. We have him in a round pen because he likes to jump fences to get away. But we are worried that we won't be able to do anything with him. At the same time we bought him, we also bought a 8 mo old colt who is now halter broke, broke to lead and is a total sweetheart. We were told when we bought them that the Palomino was a ranch mares offspring that they round up in the spring and brand and cut all at the same time and ship off to the sale barn. The guy we bought him from had bought him to run with his registered Palomino so that he wouldn't have to wean his registered one alone. But he was never worked with and now this is what we are facing. If anyone could give us some pointers or advice, we would gladly appreciate it and are willing to try almost anything. Please email me at kitkat_curtis@hotmail.com.

Hi! I have a wild mustang and also keep her in a round
pen. Bad ideal. Too big and sometime you need to get
one cornered to slowly bond with. You need to get this
young man trusting in yuou and make him feel
confordable with you. It will take some time. Does he
have a halter on? Hook a short lead rope to it if you
can. Let him drag it along. If you can get him pen in
some way rub him down with a bag or something. But try
to have him trusting you a little. It has taken me
2months and just know is the mare starting to come
around and it is very slow but I will tell you the
truth I have a good friend who is a breeded and some
young ones are just borned wild as a march wind and
some can straight out and some can't no matter what, so
just do all you can and if it doen't work you gave it
your all and know when to get rid of one Hope I have
helped in some way! Ken Davis
PS make sure the fence is at lest 6ft high if he is a jumper
