: : I HAVE A 4 YEAR OLD MARE. WHEN YOU RIDE HER SHE DOES OK WHEN WALKING. AND SOMETIME CAN BRING HER TO A TROT WITH OUT TO MUCH TROUBLE. ASK FOR A LOPE,,,, MAN SHE COMES UNGLUDED. I THANK IT IS SHE DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO COLLECT YET. I THINK SHE DOSEN'T KNOW HOW TO GET HER HIND LEGS UNDER HER AND KEEP BALANCED.
: : ANY IDEALS?? KEN
: How much pre-riding ground work did this mare get? If she has not had enough foundation work put in that could cause this problem. Also, is the saddle 'grabbing' her in any way when she goes from the trot into the lope? That could be the problem. There are a lot of variables here - could the bit be bothering her? I'd go right back to the basics with her and try to work through the problem. If she's pretty green, she likely hasn't figured out how to keep herself in balance carrying weight - just takes time and patience. Good luck.
I have had vet float teeth and he said all is good there. I have had the saddle made to fit her and all is good there.
She had ground training all of her life. She has been real good with everthing until it comes to a lope. She does just not want do it with out a fit. I am really thinking she is just too young even tho she is a 4 year old. She just does not collect good. I need to figure out a way to make her start getting those hing legs under her. Thanks so much for the reply. PS vet also check her for soundness and said she is sound.
