Hi Debbie - Get the book Blessed Are the Brood Mares by M. Phyllis Lose, it is one of the best around and gives you all kinds of information along with photos of term mares. Your library can probably get it for you through a library loan, or you can purchase it at most equine book seller catalogs. Also, get to know your local equine veterinarian - they can be a tremendous help to you. Good luck.
