I just had a horse shipped down from Canada on Saturday. He is a 7 year old quarter cross. We had him vetted out in Canada (we live in Ohio) and he passed except his pasterns are straighter and his feet needed trimmed…now when he was shipped down from Canada to Ohio (8.5 hrs) he was very “touchy” we thought. I rode him Sunday and he was a little off. We called Canada and they said he wasn’t really trimmed fully, they just tried to get rid of some of the flares on his feet…so now we believe he is unbalanced…not really sore? He has NOT had shoes on for a year…today. Hes an amazing horse and we would love to buy him, but the foot thing is starting to bother us (afraid something may be wrong). It seems very odd that he was vet checked wed (last wed) and Saturday he was sore. We have until this Tuesday to decide if we are going to buy him and we really would like him. He is only going to be used as a school horse for 2 months and then a trail horse. And today we had shoes put on him today and i decided to lightly ride him. He was great in the beginning and both of my trailers thought so also, but then he started acting a bit off again and bobbing his head. it was very upseting that he was wonderful in the beginning and then he went back to being off. Usually if a horse is sore they start out sore and then work it out but it was opposite with him. They only thing i could think of was he did stumble/trip and then i noticed him off, but i dont know. my trainer said that isnt good that he was fine and then was acting sore...its quite upseting. We have until tuesday to make our final decision on him...
